Time Greyhound Nutrition has renewed its sponsorship of one of UK greyhound racing’s most historic and prestigious competitions which begins in Newcastle on Thursday.

The greyhound and whippet feed experts have thrown their support behind the £12,500 Northern Flat, a competition first held in 1927 at White City in London – host venue of the 1908 Olympic Games.

This year’s renewal has attracted a host of star names, including 2024 English Greyhound Derby finalist Sunnyside Broxi, 2025 English Greyhound Derby semi finalist Droopys Bookem, Gymcrack hero Elusivenomore and last year’s runner-up Slingshot Sam.

Based in Ireland but operating across the UK, Time Greyhound Nutrition prides itself on enabling greyhounds to reach their true potential on and off the track. It achieves this through products that are nutritionally balanced and tailored to a dog’s requirements by factoring age and levels of activity.

Co-founder Willie Rigney is looking forward to Thursday’s heats and thinks local track knowledge could be the key to finding winners.

“The Northern Flat is one of UK greyhound racing’s most historic and prestigious competitions and we’re proud to support this year’s renewal,” said Willie.

“Our brand has a strong affinity to the north-east, and we are committed to supporting the industry through mutually beneficial partnerships. Newcastle has attracted a fantastic entry for this year’s Northern Flat which on paper looks ultra-competitive.

“Personally, I’m always in favour of local knowledge so Droopys Bookem, Sunnyside Broxi and Elusivenomore for last year’s winning trainer Jimmy Fenwick really stand out.

“Likewise, Romeo Jackson catches my eye in the second heat and Deliverooo in the race after who will get his draw in trap six. Jacktavern Chief is one to keep an eye on too for Glenn Foot.

“Last year’s final was memorable thanks to the support for Slingshot Sam from owner Craig Armstrong and his army of fans who travelled from Scotland. Heat five is hard to call, but it would be great if he could progress.

“The unknown quantity for me runs in the last race, Return Package. We’re looking forward to being trackside for Thursday’s heats and wish all runners and their connections the best of luck.”
