Newcastle Greyhound Stadium can confirm details of its racing schedule for 2024, with Saturday afternoon and Thursday evening racing headlining five weekly fixtures starting in the new year.
The Fossway venue will open its doors on Friday, Saturday and Wednesday afternoons plus Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings with all fixtures forming part of the Premier Greyhound Racing schedule launching on January 1, 2024.
Headlining Newcastle’s calendar will be three Category One competitions – the highest grade of UK greyhound racing – with the Arena Racing Company Northern Puppy Derby in February plus the Arena Racing Company Northern Flat in July.
The venue’s Category One programme for 2024 concludes in December with the sport’s traditional curtain closer for the calendar year – the Premier Greyhound Racing All England Cup.
General Manager Ian Walton said the schedule will deliver a strong mix of graded, open and competition races for racegoers to enjoy.
“It remains all systems go ahead of one of our premier race nights for this year with the All England Cup taking centre stage between Christmas and New Year,” said Ian. “But looking further ahead, we’re pleased to confirm details of our 2024 schedule.
“We’re retaining our popular Friday and Saturday afternoon slots which have proven to be popular among our racegoers, much-valued owners and trainers alike. Hosting three high-quality Category One competitions through the year will bring the very best greyhounds trackside too.
“For families and groups of friends or colleagues yet to experience live greyhound racing, we’d highly recommend a visit trackside in the new year. The action is fast and there are plenty of opportunities to meet the stars of the track, learn more about the life of a racing greyhound and see how they make great pets in retirement.
"We'll also be allowing schooling after racing on Tuesdays to enable us to show our continued support for British breeding."

Tuesday mornings – first race 10.54am.
Wednesday afternoons – first race 1.57pm.
Thursday evenings – first race 6.38pm.
Friday afternoons – first race 2.04pm.
