Newcastle Stadium has extended its free admission offer during National Greyhound Week after racegoers snapped up all complimentary tickets available for its Saturday showpiece.
The Fossway venue is set to welcome hundreds of guests free of charge on Saturday, August 31, to round-off its National Greyhound Week celebrations with tickets only available online or on the door for the regular price.
Now, 200 more free admission tickets have been released with 100 tickets available for the track’s Thursday evening and Friday afternoon fixtures on August 29 and August 30.
Both fixtures will include 12 live races, with Thursday’s card featuring a selection of open races – the highest grade of UK greyhound racing.
Ian Walton, general manager at Newcastle Stadium, encouraged families yet to book their place trackside to do so before it’s too late.
“Our free admission offer for Saturday’s showpiece fixture went down a treat with local racegoers as we expected,” said Ian.
“We’re continually looking at ways to engage new audiences with racing, so we’ve made a limited number of tickets available for our Thursday evening and Friday afternoon fixtures too.
“We don’t anticipate these tickets to last long, so for families, groups of friends and colleagues who wish to celebrate National Greyhound Week with our team we’d urge you to book as soon as possible.
“Greyhound racing is a fun, family friendly, night out for everyone with the dogs at the heart of everything we do. While they might be fast on track, they’re gentle, loving and affectionate animals off it and make fantastic pets in retirement – one aspect of the sport we’ll be showcasing to racegoers all week.”
Launched last year by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB), National Greyhound Week showcases greyhound racing via a seven-day roadshow of events.
The week will celebrate the sport’s canine athletes, those who work across the industry plus its fans and partners with Newcastle running dedicated fixtures on three successive days – August 29, August 30 and August 31.
Ian added: “Our racing programme operates through the year, but National Greyhound Week is a special time for the team and our sport.
“We’re fortunate to have a hard-working and dedicated team of staff onsite and committed trainers and owners who make Newcastle a great location to enjoy an afternoon or evening with friends in all seasons.”
